The leader of the Humanist Party of Moldova (PUM) Ion Mereuta is going to relinquish his mandate of city councillor. The decision and the reason associated with it will be publicly announced at the meeting of the Chisinau City Council on Thursday, August 30. Mereuta told Info-Prim Neo that he gives up his mandate in favour of the Orthodox Church, or more exactly of father Serghei Cires, senior priest of St. Parascheva Church, who follows Mereuta on the electoral list. “I hope that he will manage to reconcile the councillors and make them behave like Christians, because they are doing nothing but fighting with each other”, PUM leader said. As a result of the June 3 elections, PUM got two councillor’s mandates. After the local elections on June 3, the City Council assembled for several times, yet it failed to solve some crucial issues, such as to elect its president and the four deputy mayors of the city.
