The President can consult the parties, but it is his right to propose a candidate for premiership. The problem is what the public expects? The public wants such a Prime Minister and Ion Sturza could be a solution, former Moldova’s Ambassador to the United States, analyst Igor Munteanu said in the talk show “In Depth” on Pro TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.
According to Munteanu, Ion Sturza is not popular in polls because he is not even included in them, while most of the party leaders have an exorbitant anti-rating. “If Sturza is not elected Prime Minister, it will be a real chance for him to enter politics in 2016. Sturza has the same advantages enjoyed by party leaders because he could be voted by the educated segments of society,” he stated.
The analyst said he tried to understand the rules by which Sturza was fielded as a candidate. “We understand that this is a person from outside parties. The reason why the Democratic Party is concerned about this candidate is because this person is not from its gang. If we look at the reputation of parties, the PDM should not be angry with others. After the elections of 2014, the same mistakes were made in politics,” said Munteanu.
According to the director of Radio Free Europe Chisinau Vasile Botnaru, who was invited to the same program, what is going on is an instructive or even cinematographic situation. “Timofti chose this variant, defying Parliament. The competition between them is designed to choose the biggest fool. There are plans for the public and realities. Now Sturza is threatening them: you should better elect me or there will be early elections,” he stated.
In a message posted on Facebook, the candidate for Prime Minister Ion Sturza thanked the people for their support. “I thank you for you messages of support. There are hundreds of such messages… I physically do not manage to answer them, but believe me these really count for me! I promise to do my job openly and fairly, as until now. With the people’s support, we will succeed!” says the message.
