Public services, education, healthcare and social assistance have most rigid timetables

The people working in public services, education, healthcare and social assistance (93% of all the employees working in these areas) have the most inflexible timetables, shows the research study “Labour Organization and Typology of Timetable” carried out by the National Bureau of Statistics between April-June 2007. Instead, agriculture and the construction sector provide the most flexible timetables for the Moldovan salary earners – 65% and, respectively, 73%. According to the study, the persons that have an informal job have more flexible work programmes. The broadest type of timetable in Moldova is the programme with fixed hours when the employee must come to work and go home. Some 84% of the salary earners work under such a programme. About 17% of employees work in shifts, while 49% work on the weekend too, of whom 21% only on Saturday. Approximately 12% of the employed worked by about eight additional hours a week, of which only six hours were paid. The aim of the study was to obtain information about the length of the working day and the characteristics of different types of work programmes used in Moldova. The research covered a sample of about 10,000 employed persons.
