Civil servants in Moldova today celebrated their professional day for the first time, a day established by Governmental decree in the spirit of the UN-designated World Public Service Day, which is also marked on June 23. “A civil servant is the mechanism, sometimes invisible, that makes the state machinery fulfill its mission. It depends on the professionalism, involvement and attitude of civil servants if this state machinery runs as good as a clock, living up to the requirements of the times”, said Tamara Gheorghita, head the State Chancellery's HR department. On this occasion, Prime Minister Vlad Filat extended congratulations to all the civil servants in the country, bidding them success and further achievements. The prime minister said that such a professional day was introduced to acknowledge the importance of civil servants in society and their structural role as a key element in the state and to highlight the role of public service in human activity. Vlad Filat also noted the need to reform civil service, including by attracting more young professionals into the system and by changing the remuneration approach.
