Public schools short of 150 teachers

While about 800 fresh graduates will fill teacher vacancies in public schools across Moldova, the system is still short of 150 teachers just three weeks before the start of the 2011/2012 academic year, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vasilisa Iluta, HR consultant at the Ministry of Education, told a Friday meeting at the Ministry that the districts that fare worst in this regard are Soroca, Nisporeni, Stefan-Voda, Hincesti, Causeni, Floresti and Cimislia. Math, physics, informatics, music and physical training are the disciplines which experience the shortest supply of teachers. The pre-university system also lacks primary school teachers. Vasilisa Iluta explained the shortage on the fact than many university graduates either choose to advance their studies or prefer other jobs than in education. There are around 1,500 schools in Moldova.
