Public readings at Bookshop No. 9 continue with new discoveries

Playwright and journalist Val Butnaru was the third invitee of the “Public Readings. Prose 9” project. On October 27 in the evening, the author read fragments from the “Book of Nomads from B” at Bookshop No. 9, Info-Prim Neo reports. The book exposes realities that are barely perceived by the readers. It speaks in an allegorical way about the realities and everything that has happened during the last 20 and 200 years, said publicist Constantin Cheian. “I think that we must decipher every character, event, fact, happening that could clarify the perspectives on our history,” he said. Dorin Onofrei, editor at the publishing house Cartier, said that Val Butnaru is one of the informational 'guides' of the last half a year, whose prose conveys the dramatic dialogues and the political reality seen with open eyes.” Val Butnaru said that many of the characters are grotesque in nature, but a society cannot exist without caricatures. During the readings, the author stopped at a fragment about the Wine Festival, where it is described the culture and behavior of the people at this holiday. Asked what attitude he would have had, if the holiday had been an initiative of Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, not of the former Communist head of state Vladimir Voronin, the author said that a mayor like Dorin Chirtoaca wouldn't have thought of such a name. “Sometimes I feel disgust at this holiday,” Val Butnaru said. The public readings are a method of communication between the readers and writers. Val Butnaru spoke about the situation of the playwrights in Moldova. He stressed that culture is the only unoccupied sector, where one can express oneself freely. The economy, politics and other sectors are occupied. “However, playwriting is a poor area. Few of the dramatists focus on psychology and the character,” Val Butnaru said. The project “Public Readings. Prose 9” was launched by the publishing house Cartier. The first invitee was publicist Constantin Cheianu. He read fragments from his books “Sex & Perestroika” and Everything About Me!”. He second author was Emilian Galaicu-Paun, who presented his book “Milarepa Air Lines”.
