Public persons and ordinary people commemorate Eminescu

Public persons and ordinary people remembered Mihai Eminescu on June 15, when it is 120 years of the poet’s death. Writers, composers, historians, parents and children gathered in the Public Garden “Stephan the Great”, Info-Prim Neo reports. The emcee of the event, vice president of the Writers’ Union of Moldova, poet Arcadie Suceveanu considers that the social-political situation in the country makes us again learn Eminescu’s lessons. “His works have long ago become the spiritual gospel of our people, a symbol of our culture and spirituality and a major landmark for all the Romanians. Today, we need the historian, publicist and poet Mihai Eminescu more than ever. We live the moment of full recovery of Mihai Eminescu’s works,” Arcadie Suceveanu said. Those attending urged the Moldovan people to follow Eminescu’s example: to separate the wheat from cornockle in order to offer the successors a better future. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said that Eminescu will always unite us in thought and in feelings. “No matter how many decades and millenniums pass after Mihai Eminescu’s death, his words remain topical. Now our society is divided. One of the reasons is that they tried to falsify the history, language, traditions and values of the people. Twenty years ago, Eminescu’s work helped us bring back the values to the country. I hope that today we will join forces in order to promote the true values. Nothing can be built on lie,” Dorin Chirtoaca said. Poet Ion Hadarca remembers the day when the poet was commemorated 19 years ago. “Then, the first Democratic Parliament of Moldova interrupted its session to hold a plenary sitting at the monument to Mihai Eminescu, alongside Ioan Alexandru, Marin Sorescu, Nicolae Costin, Gheorghe Ghimpu, Ion Vatamanu, Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici, Grigore Vieru, Andrei Vartiic – our great patriotic poets. Today, the Communist MPs showed total disrespect for our people’s poet. But this day always had a meaning of death and rebirth and I hope that today we will again revive in order to save our national values,” Ion Hadarca said. “Eminescu is our past, present and future. The truth told by him is topical and the references to this poet today show once again that he is the force that can mobilize us for a noble cause,” said the PLDM leader Vlad Filat. Poet Valeriu Matei considers that we are a lucky generation because we have Eminescu’s works. The poet had always been in the middle of a fight. Then, he said we were stronger because we were 8 million. Now we are about 30 million Romanians all over the world, but we continue to be divided. We should return to Eminescu’s work and read it attentively so as to have chances in the future,” Valeriu Matei said. Recently, the Romanian Academy printed the last 30 volumes of Mihai Eminescu. Ten of them had been launched in Chisinau on January 15, when the poet was born. The other 20 volumes will be presented today at the Academic Center “Mihai Eminescu” in Chisinau. Also today, there were presented 8 volumes titled “Enigma of Eminescu’s Death” – documentary articles about the last period of the poet’s life by Dumitru Vatamaniuc and Nicolae Georgescu. A book of essays about Eminescu by Vlad Zbarciog and Mihai Cimpoi came out in Iasi. They are titled “Eminescu and Bessarabians’ Organic Rights”, “Eminescu and Our Dacian Origin”, “Eminescu at Present”, “Eminescu and the Romanian Language”, etc.
