Public officials to declare assets electronically only

Until March 31, public dignity office holders are required to declare their interests and assets and, starting next year, this will be done exclusively in digital form. The National Integrity Agency today has launched the e-Integrity system, thus making the submission of declarations on paper obsolete.

e-Integrity will have an electronic register of public office holders and will make the declarations available online. Also, the system will assign the declarations randomly to the Agency’s inspectors for verification.

The system is connected to a number of governmental registers such as the real estate register, the tax database, the register of vehicle owners and others. Verification proceedings will be initiated in case of mismatches.

“This new system will benefit both the declarants and the ANI. The Agency will no longer need services to scan, digitalize and otherwise process the declarations. Once the declarants apply their digital signatures, the declarations will instantly become public, with personal data blurred out, and available to the inspectors”, says Lilian Chisca, ANI’s chief income and assets inspector.

The World Bank offered $100,000 in financial and technical support to develop the e-Integrity system.
