During 6 months in the Republic of Moldova there will take place a public awareness campaign about the persons with special needs. The Association of Disabled Students (ADS) “Gaudeamus” launched on Wednesday, June 5 a Communication Campaign on the issue of inclusive education, financed by the United Nations. The president of ADS, Natalia Buga, declared that at the campaign’s launching conference that the campaign is a public awareness and informing one, especially in the area of education, and the slogan of the campaign “Equal in Education” presents the idea of an open and accessible society for any category of persons through an adapted educational system, which should ensure the development of personality and social inclusion. This fact would stimulate the persons with disabilities to become as independent as possible, added the quoted source. The communication strategy within this campaign includes creating and making sensible the public opinion about the persons with disabilities, creating the climate of claiming and using the right to inclusive education in the high education institutions, creating the positive attitude of the authorities, public, media in order to recognize the persons with disabilities as equal members of the society, especially when it comes to education. In order to implement these goals, social advertising boards will be placed, promotional materials; posters, t-shirts, informative booklets will be distributed; TV and radio spots will be broadcasted. Buga welcomed the fact that the high education already offers some opportunities of social integration for young persons with disabilities. As an example, a Center of Services for the students with disabilities was opened in Chisinau. The center offers personal and academic assistance. ADS “Gaudeamus” is a NGO and has the mission to socially integrate the young persons with disabilities by promoting their rights, especially to education. ADS is a founding member of the Network of Disabled Students of South-Eastern Europe, activates since 2000 and has 300 members.
