The National Public Association “Consumer Protection” marks 20 years of its founding. On this occasion, it staged a press conference at IPN, in which its head, Piotr Guțul, spoke about the archived results and the witnessed failures.
Piotr Guțul noted that the association he leads was created to defend consumer rights. He referred to the problems faced by citizens in their relations with the heat and electricity supplier, but also with the state, emphasizing the inaction of decision makers.
Piotr Guțul said that during the 20 years, the cases in which the National Public Association “Consumer Protection” offered support to consumers concerned violations of the legislation, various abuses, even thefts committed by or with the consent of high-ranking state officials. The responsible state institutions were notified of these cases, but they not always got involved to solve consumers’ problems.
The representatives of the organization, who were present at the press conference, said that, regardless of the political color of the ruling parties, the government during all these years has done not enough to ensure the application of the law in the field and real protection of consumer rights.
The consumers were urged to inform themselves about their rights and not to allow to be deceived. Increased attention should be paid to the quality of medicines in pharmacies and also to the shelf life of products sold at the market and in stores.
