Public apologies demanded from Chisinau councilor Victor Gurau

The Women’s Political Club (CPF) 50/50 demands that Communist councilor Victor Gurau, who serves on the Chisinau Municipal Council, should offer public apologies because he behaved indecently when he insulted his former party colleague Elena Hrenova, after she left the Communist faction, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Club’s newly elected head Vera Schirliu told a news conference that the general assembly of the Club adopted a resolution on the condemnation of the politicians’ behavior in public. “We condemn the behavior of Victor Gurau in the November 29 meeting of the Chisinau Council and demand that he offer apologies for his rude and offensive language. We regret that the members of the Council, both men and women, did not intervene then,” Vera Schirliu stated. She warned the leaders of the parliamentary parties that representatives of the parties are more often involved in scandals and asked that they bring this situation under control. “We invite other associations that protect the human rights to subscribe to this resolution. We call on the politicians to reconsider their behavior in their work,” said Vera Schiriliu. The Club’s executive director Ecaterina Mardarovici said she is alarmed by the fact that it became something ordinary for politicians to have an obscene and scandalous behavior. According to her, Moldova risks becoming a state with the most scandalous politicians at the central and local levels of power. Ecaterina Mardarovici stated that such behavior is not a good example for the population, especially for the young people who are tomorrow’s politicians. The general assembly of CPF 50/50 voted for the introduction of a representation share for women and men in the decisional bodies. She also said that the parties in Moldova should be obliged to introduce such shares of at least 40% in their statutes. The services intended for children of preschool age and for first-fourth graders should be developed so that their mothers can take an active part in the social, political and cultural life of the country. The Women’s Political Club 50/50 is an apolitical organization that consists of 31 women from different political parties.
