The parents are the most trusted persons and they should talk to the adolescents about the risk of infection with COVID-19 when they come out of home, said psychologist Maria Vârlan.
Contacted by IPN for a comment, Maria Vârlan stated that if difficulties are experienced in the communication with their teenage children, who are at a difficult age, the parents should identify a trustworthy person – a mate, an elder friend, a favorite teacher – whom the child trusts and will follow his/her recommendations.
“If we, the adults, until now didn’t want our children to sit long in front of computer screens, now we want this and want them to communicate on social networking sites that are now the only communication way that does not involve infection risks,” stated the psychologist.
In the current quarantine conditions, Maria Vârlan recommends the parents to find interesting activities that can be performed together with the children: watching movies, reading books. They can also have discussions on interesting themes that are challenging for them, but should ban them from meeting friends, arguing that the authorities prohibit and punish such acts.
