Psychological examination of Andries camp children to be ready in a month
The results of the psychological examination of two children, who say they were sexually abused by an older boy at Andries camp in Orhei, will be ready in a month, according to Rodica Coretchi Mocanu, manager of the Center for Psychological and Social Assistance for Children and Families “Amicul”.
Viorica Dumbraveanu, department head at the Ministry of Social Protection and Family, told Info-Prim Neo the sexual abuse was yet to be proven. “We believe only the 7-year-old boy was abused, and the other one, aged 8, wasn’t”, she said.
Even if the abuse is confirmed, the boy who did it won’t be punished, as he is only 10 and the Moldovan law doesn’t stipulate any sanctions in such cases, says Viorica Dumbraveanu.
The mother of the 7-year-old boy says her child is only beginning to recover after what he suffered in the camp. “Initially, he had sleep disorders, but now he feels better. I won’t let him go anywhere without us anymore”, she said.
Ombudsman Tamara Plamadeala thinks the camp staff must be punished, as they were responsible for the children. The police initiated an investigation as requested by children’s parents.
