The Socialist Party used offshore money to finance the 2016 presidential election campaign. The money was "laundered" by several natural persons and legal entities directly or indirectly related to the PSRM. Statements in this regard have been made by the MP of DA Platform group, ACUM, Iurie Reniță, at a press conference, IPN reports.
Iurie Reniță claims that he has a document drawn up by the National Anticorruption Center, which reflects the investigations of the Service for the prevention and combating of money laundering within the CNA. According to the document, starting 2016, several natural persons and legal entities from the Republic of Moldova have actively participated in a large scale scheme of laundering money of unknown origin through offshore companies registered in the Bahamas. The money was subsequently used to finance the PSRM election campaign.
The transactions were made by the Exclusiv Media Ltd company, where the founder is the socialist MP Corneliu Furculiță. According to Iurie Reniță, the case was dismissed at the time because "the political factors then decided that Igor Dodon should be supported for the presidency". The MP asked in a letter addressed to the Prosecutor General's Office to thoroughly check the facts and to take the necessary measures to ensure the security of the state and rendering of justice. The letter is also signed by the MPs: Octavian Țîcu and Lilian Carp.
Neither the PSRM nor the Presidency commented on the accusations made at the press conference by MP Iurie Reniță.
