The MPs of the Party of Socialists propose that Igor Dodon should return to the post of leader of the party, in accordance with the statutory provisions of the PSRM. The subject was discussed in a meeting of the Socialist MP with incumbent President Igor Dodon on November 15, IPN reports.
In a press release, the PSRM says the MPs announced they will continue to fully support Igor Dodon. They agreed that a possible political crisis should be mandatorily avoided as this would deepen the economic crisis and would cause a social collapse.
“Igor Dodon assured that he is ready to look for political solutions for keeping stability together with all the parliamentary groups. He informed the Socialist MPs that he will initiate discussions with MPs of other parliamentary groups the next few days so as to identify a new parliamentary majority that is ready to ensure stability and progress in the country,” runs the press release.
The leader of the Socialist parliamentary group Corneliu Furculiță said that this year is extremely difficult not only for the Republic of Moldova, but also for the whole world given the global economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the severe drought that affected the country.
According to the preliminary results of the presidential runoff of November 15, the PAS candidate Maia Sandu obtained 57.75% of the poll, while the PSRM-backed independent candidate Igor Dodon won 42.25% of the ballot.
