PSRM restores position of party chairman

The Party of Socialists (PSRM) decided to modify the statute and restore the post of party chairman. The new PSRM leader will be elected after the amended statute is registered with the Public Services Agency, IPN reports.

After the 18th Congress of the Party of Socialists, the party's executive secretary Igor Dodon informed that the delegates approved the new political program that will be drafted and published next week. The “basic ideological pillars referring to statehood, neutrality, Moldovan traditions, Moldovan language, history of Moldova” remain key. It was noted that any external integration, in the east or in the west, can take place only on the basis of a national referendum, together with the Transnistrian region. Also, they are for “the status of neutrality and for the preservation of ancestral traditions, taking into account the rights of ethnic communities living in Moldova.”

The statute now specifies that the Party of Socialists is not a pro-Russian or pro-European party, but is a pro-Moldova party that advocates good relations with the West and East. “Under such conditions, the Party of Socialists believes that any integration can take place, in the east or in the west,” said Igor Dodon.

The Congress approved the new composition of the National Council and the Control Commission.

The head of the parliamentary group of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists Vlad Batrîncea said he is sure that the PSRM will be the force that will create the next parliamentary majority and decide the future of Moldova. The PSRM remains a united party and “ironically looks at those who designed scenarios to split the PSRM,” noted the lawmaker.
