The Party of Socialists of Moldova (PSRM) presented its platform and list of candidates for the November 30 legislative elections. The list is topped by the leader of the PSRM Igor Dodon, who is followed by Zinaida Grecheanyi. The Socialists’ congress was also attended by the Russian State Duma deputy Sergey Mironov, who heads the party “Spravedlivaya Rossiya (”A Just Russia”, IPN reports.
In his speech, Igor Dodon made a call to all the left-wing parties to unite and denounce the Association Agreement with the EU as Moldova must join the Customs Union. The party’s main slogan in the election campaign will be “Moldova needs something else”.
The Socialists’ leader announced that the PSRM will take part in the future election campaign together with the new members of the party. These are Moldova’s ex-Ambassador to Russia Andrei Neguta and former founding member of the Communist Party Vladimir Turcan, who heads the United Moldova Party and is a former Communist MP. The party was recently joined also by analyst Bogdan Tirdea and a group of deputies of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. In this connection, Igor Dodon said that more known people from Moldova will soon join the PSRM.
“I’m convinced that the PSRM will shortly become the most powerful party on the left. A new star is emerging in Moldovan politics. This is the PSRM,” stated Igor Dodon.
Presenting the PSRM’s platform, Ion Ceban, a member of the party’s Political Executive Committee, said they pursue five goals: joining of the Customs Union; government without oligarchs; a developed economy; a social state, and a powerful Moldova.
The congress involved about 2,000 people.
