The Party of Socialists provides legal consultancy to persons who were fined for wearing the ribbon of Saint George during the festivities held to celebrate Victory Day on May 9, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the party.
Members of the party said that they condemn the adoption by the parliamentary majority of the law that bans the ribbon of St. George and challenged it in the Constitutional Court. “We will take all the legal actions to obtain the repealing of this law. PSRM considers nobody has the right to ban the people from honoring the memory of our glorious fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers who defeated the Nazism and no one has the right to ban millions of people from wearing the ribbon of St. George in memory of those heroic deeds,” runs the press release.
There were already identified 103 persons who violated the law on banned symbols. Another 35 persons are being identified, the head of the General Police Inspectorate Viorel Cernăuțeanu stated in a special edition on the public TV channel.
The private individuals who do not comply with the relevant legislation face fines of 4,500 to 9,000 lei or 30/60 hours of community service. The persons holding responsible posts face a fine of 9,000 to 18,000 lei, while the legal entities – of 18,000 to 30,000 lei.
