The Party of Socialists (PSRM) ascertains an unprecedented historical situation in the country given that for the first time President Igor Dodon, who was elected by the direct vote of a majority of people, enjoys the support of the parliamentary majority. In a press release issued after the meeting of the PSRM’s National Council that set down the priorities for 2020, the party says the new political conditions offer favorable preconditions for implementing broad socioeconomic reforms, IPN reports.
The Socialists noted that only the interethnic understanding and civic equality will help unify the country and ultimately resolve the Transnistrian dispute. The law on the functioning of languages and the package of laws on the status of Gagauzia in the form in which it was coordinated by the Parliament’s joint commission and the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, with the participation of European experts, must be adopted. The anti-propaganda law should be abrogated as this is discriminatory in character and hits primarily the country’s people.
In 2020, the Party of Socialists aims to combat any attempt to undermine the independence and sovereignty of the country and calls on the international partners to respect the country’s sovereignty and Constitution. Also, the PSRM is convinced that Moldova should defend its status of military neutrality and should not join military-political alliances. It pleads against the participation of Moldovan soldiers in military exercises held under the aegis of military-political blocs.
This year, the Socialists aim to contribute to developing the economy and ensuring social equity, including by supporting the socially deprived groups of people. They plead for modernizing the medical system and for increasing budget allocations for education and the socioeconomic development of all the country’s regions. “An absolute priority for us is to maintain Moldova’s membership in the Commonwealth of Independent States and to ensure participation in new projects to integrate into the CIS, especially the Eurasian Union where the Republic of Moldova has the status of observer,” runs the press release.
The Socialists call upon all the political and civic forces that plead for Moldova’s statehood, social equity, interethnic peace and traditional values to contribute to protecting the statehood and consolidating society by combining forces.
