The MPs of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) requested the Constitutional Court to pronounce on the way in which the President designated the candidate for premiership after  holding consultations with the parliamentary groups. According to them, the Head of State violated the constitutional provisions, while the consultations were mimicked, IPN reports.

Deputy Parliament Speaker Vlad Batrîncea, executive secretary of the PSRM, said the group of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists was informed about the planned consultations 40 minutes before their start. At that moment, the briefing that was to be held by the President had been already announced.

“It was clear that there was a scenario and that Parliament was ignored in that situation. We are 32 MPs and we needed time to come together, to take decisions. Regrettably, our group was obstructed,” stated Vlad Batrîncea.

Maxim Lebedinschi, a member of the Executive Committee of the PSRM, said that in accordance with the Constitution, the President’s constitutional obligation is to consult the parliamentary groups and this obligation cannot be mimicked. “In such conditions, we want to see if the Constitutional Court will obey its previous practice or will try to play political games in favor of parliamentary groups,” noted Maxim Lebedinschi.

Natalia Gavrilița announced her resignation on February 10. Later the same day, President Maia Sandu took note of the resignation and initiated consultations with the parliamentary groups for designing a candidate for Prime Minister. The consultations involved the MPs of the Party of Action and Solidarity and of the Shor Party. The latter said the consultations were mimicked. The MPs of the BCS group in a news conference said they consider that snap parliamentary elections should be held. The same day, Dorin Recean was designated for Premier.
