PSRM discussing joint presidential candidate with extra-parliamentary parties

The Moldovan Party of Socialists (PSRM) is holding talks with a number of extra-parliamentary parties with a view to fielding a common candidate in the upcoming presidential election. PSRM executive secretary Igor Dodon, the fifth president of Moldova, announced this in a Facebook video.

“I want to confirm that we are having discussions. I have personally discussed this subject in recent weeks with the leaders of some parties. I will not name names yet, as it wouldn’t be right, but we are looking for a common candidate who will be supported by some well-rated parties, the parties with the best chances to make it to the next parliament”, said Igor Dodon.

He noted that his candidacy wouldn’t be “a priority for the PSRM”. “As I said earlier: let’s decide on the candidate, and I will support him. Our first and foremost goal is to get our country rid of Maia Sandu. And she will lose this election, I am convinced of that”, added Igor Dodon.

According to him, the election will most likely take place in October and will be combined with a referendum.
