The Party of Socialists (PSRM) requests the Chisinau City Hall to reintroduce the compensation for heating expenses for the inhabitants of the capital city. "We want justice," the protesters chanted in front of the City Hall, while the municipal councilors were having a meeting, IPN reports.

At the protests mounted by the PSRM, the Socialist members accused the municipality of not offering heat compensation this year. They said that in the 2021-2022 heating season, financial support was provided from the mayor's budget for 24,000 Chisinau residents, and in 2022-2023 – 13,000 residents of the capital city received compensation.

For the previous heating season and the next one, the municipal authorities did not introduce compensation. The protesters argued that there are vulnerable categories, including pensioners and people with disabilities, who cannot pay their bills.

"The municipal budget must satisfy the interests of Chisinau," said Alexandru Odintsov, deputy chairman of the PSRM’s group in the Municipal Council. Odintsov added that the only solution to help the residents of Chisinau is to introduce compensation paid with funds from the budget of the City Hall.

The Socialist municipal councilors this November launched a campaign to collect signatures for the restoration of the heat compensation offered by local authorities in Chisinau during the cold period of the year.

Mayor Ion Ceban previously noted that financial support must be provided on equal terms for all. "A pensioner in Chisinau cannot be paid 90% of the bill, and the pensioner in Ialoveni, which is a few kilometers away, only 45-50%. It's not fair. For everyone it must be the same support," said the mayor.

Ion Ceban, who is the chairman of the National Alternative Movement, was a member of the PCRM until 2012, later a member of the PSRM, which he left in 2021.
