The Party of Socialists (PSRM) requested to immediately convene the Supreme Security Council in connection with the situation in the financial-banking sector and the rising prices, IPN reports.
In a communique, the PSRM says the leu’s depreciation is disastrous already. “The exchange rate of the US dollar is close to the critical level of 20 lei, while of the euro exceeds 23 lei at some currency exchange facilities. The prices of basic necessities go up continuously. The prices of rice, buckwheat and flour, which are the main products consumed by the socially deprived groups of people, rose suddenly. The charges of public utilities are increasing. Despite the 55% decline in world oil prices, the fuel prices in Moldova do not decrease. This can lead to a food catastrophe as the spring agricultural works would not be performed,” reads the communique.
The PSRM demands that the governor of the National Bank of Moldova Dorin Dragutanu should be dismissed and held accountable and that an extraordinary sitting of Parliament should be convened to discuss the situation in the financial-banking sector and the rises in prices and to launch special measures to stop the inflation.
The Socialists also demand freezing the charges of public utilities and the prices of the main products, immediately indexing the salaries in the budgetary sphere, the pensions, allowances and other social benefits and holding accountable all those who are involved in the illegalities committed at Banca de Economii, Banca Sociala, and Unibank.
