PSRM closes local organization in Gagauzia

The local organization of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) in Gagauzia will be closed. Instead of it, district local offices will be set up in Comrat, Ceadir-Lunga, and Vulcanesti. The announcement was made by the leader of the PSRM Igor Dodon for the portal www.gagaguziainfo.md, IPN reports.

“We decided to close the regional local organization and to create thee district organizations instead of it. I think it is a correct decision. We were asked by the party’s members from Ceadir-Lunga and Vulcanesti to do so,” stated Igor Dodon.

Referring to the refusal of a group of Socialists from Gagauzia to obey the party’s decision to support Irina Vlah in the elections for the Governor of Gagauzia, Dodon said the related statements were made when there was no final decision yet.

“We didn’t propose a candidate on behalf of the Party of Socialists. Irina Vlah is an independent candidate. But we consider that she is the most suitable candidate for this post among those who run in the elections. That’s why we will support her,” he stated.

Igor Dodon considers the administration of the party’s regional organization in Gagauzia was subject to external pressure and there are already ‘former member’ of the PSRM. “As regards Igor Croitor (who until now headed the PSRM’s regional organization – e.n.), I feel pity for this person. I intended to promote him and to field him for the post of mayor of Comrat town and, in the future, for the post of Governor of Gagauzia. Regretfully, he yielded up to the influence of obscure persons,” he stated.

Earlier, Socialists from Gagauzia said that despite the party’s decision, they will support former Governor Dimitrie Croitor in the local elections in Gagauzia as Irina Vlah is not the best candidate for dealing with the problems faced by the region.
