The leader of the PSRM Igor Dodon said that they earlier proposed a candidate for Prime Minister and their position remained unchanged – the investing of a government with full powers will enable to more efficiently manage the pandemic. According to him, the proposed candidate continues to enjoy support, but if the other parliamentary groups or the presidential administration suggest other candidates, the PSRM is ready to discuss them. Igor Dodon refused to comment on Mariana Durleșteanu’s decision to withdraw her candidacy for premiership, IPN reports.
After the consultations held by President Maia Sandu with the parliamentary groups, which he attended even if he is not an MP, the politician said that a dialogue between the political leaders was ultimately held, after a period of three months, so as to try and find solutions to the political, constitutional and epidemiological crises. He noted that speaking about political scenarios in times of a pandemic, when tens of people die daily because of COVID-19, is something inhuman. The people want the senior state officials to first of all prioritize their agendas.
He noted that the snap or ordinary parliamentary elections would be a compromise, as the presidential institutions and the PSRM wanted. The current Parliament should be reset. Elections cannot be yet held in April-May, as some wanted. They can be held after at least 300,000-400,000 people are vaccinated or it is very risky to start the election campaign.
Asked about the announcement made by Mariana Durleșteanu, the candidate for Prime Minister designated by the parliamentary majority formed by the PSRM and For Moldova platform, which includes the MPs of the Shor Party, Igor Dodon refused to comment on this. He only said that they discuss different scenarios, including political ones, with Mariana Durleșteanu. He noted that there is a majority in Parliament and this can vote in a Prime Minister.
On March 16, President Maia Sandu had consultations with all the parliamentary groups. After the discussions, the official is to make statements for the press.
