The Party of Socialists (PSRM) is indignant at the Constitutional Court’s decision to reject as inadmissible the Socialist MPs’ application to determine the constitutionality of Law No. 151 of October 4, 2018 concerning the sale of the site of the former Republican Stadium to the United State for construction of a New Embassy Compound. According to the party, this verdict by the Court confirmed the illegal consent given by the regime of Plahotniuc to sell the site to the U.S. Embassy. PSRM considers the transfer of the site to the U.S. Embassy is inacceptable and calls on its supporters to get ready for a nationwide protest, IPN reports.
“The Republican Stadium is a national treasure of the people of the Republic of Moldova. The fate of whole generations of our compatriots is related to this. The agreement to sell the Republican Stadium to the U.S. Embassy was a criminal waste of our historical heritage by the criminal-oligarchic regime of Plahotniuc and his supporters,” the party said in a press release.
According to the Socialists, the decision concerning the privatization of the Republican Stadium was taken in breach of the principe of transparency, without public consultations and without a clear value of the contract. That’s why the Socialist group on the previous Parliament voted to annul this corrupt agreement and to nationalize again the Republic Stadium.
“The Party of Socialists considers the current verdict of the pocket Constitutional Court is the result of secret agreements between President Maia Sandu and U.S. Ambassador Dereck Hogan for supporting the Party of Action and Solidarity in the parliamentary elections. This decision by the Constitutional Court is another act aimed at encroaching on the national sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova by the current government of compradors and their Western backers,” runs the press release.
The Party of Socialists said it intends to continue fighting for the Republican Stadium so that this remains property of the people of the Republic of Moldova and a new sport complex or another social facility is built on this site. “We call on our supports and on all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, as the transfer of the site of the former Republic Stadium to the U.S. Embassy is inacceptable, to get ready for a nationwide protest against this serious violation of the sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova and the national dignity of its citizens,” said the Socialists.
The CC rejected as inadmissible the application of Socialist MPs Grigore Novac, Vasile Bolea and Alexandr Suhodolski to determine the constitutionality of Law No. 151 of October 4, 2018 concerning the sale of the site of the former Republican Stadium to the United State for construction of a New Embassy Compound. On July 29, the Constitutional Court is to examine three more challenges concerning the Republican Stadium filed by MPs of the Democratic Party, the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” and the Party of Action and Solidarity, who disputed the law adopted by the parliamentary majority consisting of MPs of the Party of Socialists and the For Moldova Platform on December 3, 2020 by which the law of 2018 that authorized the sale of the site of the former Republican Stadium to the United State was revoked.
