“The protection of the Moldovan citizens who are in Ukraine and of the rights and interests of the Moldovan communities in Ukraine is now a priority. The Government must ensure permanent contact with our people who were affected by this critical situation and to offer the necessary assistance,” says a statement by the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova on the developments in Ukraine, IPN reports.

“Together with all the people of the Republic of Moldova, we are concerned about the developments in Ukraine. Regrettably, despite the diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the region, the situation degenerated. We call on the involved sides to show calmness and have a peaceful dialog. The provided solutions, no matter how difficult they are, should be identified at the negotiating table,” says PSRM’s statement.

The party calls on the authorities to refrain from any hostile action or statement that can be detrimental to the security and national interests of the Republic of Moldova as these can now cause more harm than the firearms.

According to PSRM, the citizens and the business community should be the Government’s main preoccupation. The people and the enterprises in the country should continue to have uninterrupted access to energy resources, food products, medical services and all the necessary things. The authorities should take measures to avoid a humanitarian crisis following the wave of refugees that is expected to grow.

The Socialists assured that even if they form part of the opposition, they are ready to provide all their capacities and expertise so as to overcome this critical situation.
