The Party of Socialists (PSRM) requested the Central Election Commission (CEC) to issue a circular by which all the electoral functionaries would be warned about the inadmissibility of violating the secrecy of the vote. The call was made after the PSRM was notified that the members of electoral offices are daily told that the photographing of the ballot on the election day is allowed, IPN reports.

In a news conference, the representative of the PSRM at the CEC Maxim Lebedinski said the regulations ban the photographing of the ballot after the stamp “voted” is put on it. “Any attempt to violate this norm can be described as a violation of the right of the secrecy of the vote, which is violation of people’s constitutional guarantees. This can serve as a reason for holding the person accountable,” he stated.

According to the jurist, there are signs that people’s votes are being bought. This is an offense that is punished criminally. “I call on the citizens of the Republic of Moldova to vote in compliance with their political preferences and not to allow being lured with sums of money. All these cases will be documented and we will notify the police and the prosecutor’s office of them,” stated Maxim Lebedinski.

He also referred to the situation of polling places organized for voters from the left side of the Nistru. The PSRM does not agree with their relocation to Călărași, Cahul, Chsinau and Balti as the voters in the Transnistrian region will have to travel tens and event more than 100 km to be able to vote. The complaint is pending at the Supreme Court of Justice.

Secretary for ideology of the PSRM Ion Ceban said a lot of signals come, including from state medical and education institutions and other enterprises. The people are imposed to photograph the ballots and to present the pictures to show how they voted, but the law bans this. These are corruption attempts that are punished criminally.
