The Socialist MPs requested the Constitutional Court (CC) to subject to constitutional control the law that authorized the sale of the site of the former Republican Stadium to the U.S. The law was adopted in 2018, when the Government was led by Pavel Filip, IPN reports.
Socialist MP Vasile Bolea said this law was rejected by Igor Dodon for two times. After the President refused again to promulgate the law, the CC suspended Igor Dodon from office based on a request made by the Democratic MPs, while the law was promulgated by the then Speaker of Parliament, Democrat Andrian Candu. The law was promulgated by an unauthorized person and should be nullified, according to the Socialists.
Parliament in July 2018 passed a law that authorized the sale of the site of the former Republican Stadium to the United States for construction of a New Embassy Compound. The vote was held in the absence of the Socialist MPs, who left the hall being dissatisfied with the bill. Later, President Igor Dodon refused to promulgate the law. In October 2018, Parliament voted again to uphold the decision and the President had to promulgate the document.
On December 3, the Socialist MPs and the MPs of the For Moldova Platform that includes the MPs of the Shor Party voted to abrogate the law of 2018. The opposition MPs went to the CC, which suspended the abrogation law. Meanwhile, this law was published in the Official Gazette.
