The Social-Liberal Party is concerned about the possible promises made recently in Moscow by President Vladimir Voronin to the Russian President Vladimir Putin. „The price for the so-called normalized relations with Russia might be a subtle start for talks on a new draft concerning the Transnistrian conflict, which might be more horrid than „Kozak Memorandum” of November 2003”, PSL leader Oleg Serebrian stated on Tuesday press conference, 8 August. He highlighted that the lack of transparence regarding the real matters discussed in Moscow and the restrained statements of the president mean that the requirements formulated by Russia were very harsh. „It is not excluded that Voronin was demanded to unconditionally capitulate, and the position of president Putin will depend on later actions of Moldova,” Serebrian mentioned. According to PSL chairman, Voronin is in a difficult situation within the country, as well as on foreign level. The head of state acknowledged how difficult the path towards West is; the Unites States and the European Union is waiting for implementing the made promises. Since April 2005, the Communist government honored just formally its engagements and, under these conditions, Vladimir Voronin was forced to redirect his speech and the political direction, and the latest events in Ukraine pushed him as well. The appointment of Victor Ianukovici as prime minister, and together with this, the risk of Kiev having its foreign policy direction changed might have certain impacts over RM, fact of that Voronin is aware, Serebrian underscored. On the other hand, PSL leader underlined, Moscow is interested in improving relations with Voronin, noting that the Communist Party is the only one it can count on the pro-Russian direction of a RM. Oleg Serebrian expressed concern about the perspective of unconditioned withdrawal of Russian troops of the Transnistrian region. „They rather will be used as additional pressure factor. It is not excluded that it will be decided, together with Chisinau, on the new statute for keeping them in the eastern part of RM”, PSL leader noted.
