The alliance formed by Romania’s Social Democratic Party (PSD), the National Union for the Progress of Romania (UNPR), and the Conservative Party (PC) polled 37.25% of the vote in the May 25 European Parliament elections, according to the preliminary results presented by the Romanian Central Electoral Bureau, IPN reports.
With 93.54% of the votes counted, the National Liberal Party (PNL) came second with 14.86% of the poll. It is followed by the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) with 12.26% of the vote, independent candidate Mircea Diaconu with 6.95%, the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) with 6.48%, and the People’s Movement Party (PMP) with 6.24%. The other competitors didn’t pass the electoral threshold. In Moldova, Romania established eight poling places for the elections to the European Parliament.
According to the official website of the European Parliament, the European People’s Party (EPP) gained most of the votes (28.23% of the poll) and obtained thus 212 seats in Parliament. The Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats won 24.77% of the vote and 186 seats, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe - 9.32% and 70 seats, while the Greens/ European Free Alliance -7.32% and 55 seats respectively.
