PSD sues Chisinau City Hall
The Social Democratic Party (PSD) will demand that the court annul the contract signed by the Chisinau City Hall and the Italian company Engineering Consulting SRL for building a waste burning plant in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the PSD.
According to experts, the Italian company's project contains no guarantees that the ecological security of the municipality will not be affected. Moreover, the contract allows the company to sign over the right to implement the project to another firm, if necessary. A condition imposed by the company is that the plant will burn not only household waste from the municipality and its suburbs, but also all kind of waste brought from European countries, the communique says.
The PSD considers such a contract must be extremely transparent and signed only after it is examined by national specialists. The Social-Democrats call on civil society to take part in the debates organized by them on the economic and ecological issues problems deriving from the intention to build the plant in Chisinau.
The Chisinau Municipal Council in March allocated a plot of 10 hectares situated on Lunca Bacului St to STR Engineering Consulting SRL, on which to erect the waste disposal plant. The agreement was signed by Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca and the Italian company's head.
Under the agreed timetable, a feasibility study is to be made and construction authorizations obtained within ten months of the allocation of the land. The plant is to be built during 20 months of the obtaining of the construction authorizations and urbanism certificate.
The Council's decision aroused the dissatisfaction of the people living in the area, who complained they already suffer because of the emissions from the wastewater treatment station and other plants working nearby.
