PSD misinforms, EU Delegation to Moldova
The Delegation of the European Union to Moldova says the Social Democratic Party of Moldova (PSD) did not correctly inform public opinion about the discussion held recently by the two sides, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a statement issued by the EU Delegation in the evening of November 3.
“The Delegation of the European Union to Moldova notes with regret the press release issued by the Social Democratic Party of Moldova concerning a meeting held at the EU Delegation. This press release does unfortunately not correctly reflect the content of the discussion.
At the meeting, the representative of the EU Delegation made the following remarks:
- The EU Delegation is willing to enter into a dialogue with all Moldovan political forces provided that basic principles are respected.
- Anti-Roma and anti-Romanian statements can have no place in such a dialogue.
- There is no link between alleged Roma migration and the success of the EU - Republic of Moldova Dialogue on Visa Liberalization.
- The EU Delegation is not aware of any threat to public order by persons migrating to Moldova from Romania. The relevant format for related questions is the bilateral Romania - Republic of Moldova dialogue.
- The inclusion of Roma in the society is a priority for the EU both internally and in its dialogue with partner countries."
In the first half of November 3, the PSD issued a communiqué, saying the official meeting with the EU Delegation focused on the interest of the Romanians of Romany origin to settle in Moldova and the massive crossing of the state border.
According to the PSD’s communiqué, Dirk Lorenz, the representative of the EU Delegation to Moldova, said the international institution is concerned about the quality of the EU - Moldova Dialogue on Visa Liberalization. As to the interest of Romanian’s Roma to settle in Moldova, the EU Delegation cannot intervene in this respect as Moldova is not an EU member state and this would represent direct interference in Moldova’s affairs.
“At the same time, Dirk Lorenz welcomed the Social Democratic Party’s initiative and preoccupation with the public order and national security and stressed that though the PSD is an extraparliamentary party, the EU Delegation to Moldova is anytime ready to discuss with the party’s representatives in order to promote the democratic principles and the plurality of opinion,” the PSD has said.
