PSD initiates referendum on Moldova’s entry into Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Union

The Social Democratic Party (PSD) has initiated a referendum on Moldova’s entry into the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union. The meeting of the initiative group will take place in Chisinau on December 10, while the procedure for collecting signatures in favor of the referendum will start on January 28, 2012, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a statement from the party. “Moldova must tend to form part of the modern world, where there are advantages and free movement, common energy and transport systems, known communication languages, stores of raw material and markets,” reads the statement. According to the party, Moldova’s entry into the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union will offer the investors from the EU, China and the United States the opportunity of creating companies in Moldova and of supplying the finished products on a guaranteed market for Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. “The expectations of a better life, social protection and family welfare haven’t been met by the current Government and Parliament. The administration lies to you and deprives you of the last incomes. The authorities robbed the people, using its repressive apparatus. This antisocial government used the people’s power, but it is impossible to deprive the people of their power,” said the PSD. At least 200,000 signatures of Moldovans with the right to vote are needed to initiate a referendum.
