Prut waters recede, levees further reinforced
The works to reinforce the levee near the pumping station in Cantemir town continue the fifth consecutive day, Emergencies Service spokeswoman Liliana Puscasu has told Info-Prim Neo.
The Prut waters have washed and weakened this levee three times. Sacks of sand are placed at the bottom of the levee in order to stop the water from passing through. The level of water is about three meters.
A number of 250 rescuers, police officers, carabineers and road workers, including five Romanian rescuers, are reenforcing the Stoianovca – Cantemir bridge.
The barrage of the lake located between Gotesti village of Cantemir and Chircani village of Cahul has been broken open in order to let the water from the flooded area flow back.
The levee in Nemteni, Hancesti continues to be reinforced. About 1,000 cubic meters of water have been pumped out of four cellars and a yard there.
In Ungheni town and Clafa village of Anenii Noi, the water is pumped out of wells.
The water level in Giurgiulesti, Cahul fell by 9 centimeters. This shows the Danube started to take in the Prut waters.
