Protesters seek Valeriu Zubco’s dismissal

Members of the nongovernmental organization Hyde Park Tuesday staged a protest in front of the Prosecutor General’s Office, defending a Ukrainian family that settled in Moldova. One of the active members of the NGO Oleg Brega has told Info-Prim Neo that the family came to Moldova in the hope that they will find better living conditions, but were evicted from the hostel for refugees. The family is now on the streets. Its members do not have identification papers and thus cannot find employment. Last week, the family wanted to protest in front of the Prosecutor’s Office, but were forced to leave. Hyde Park seeks the dismissal of Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubco. “We demand that the Prosecutor General’s Office should react promptly, correctly and legally to people’s complaints. The prosecutors themselves commit illegalities. Last week, they destroyed the umbrella of a protester, who remained in the rain. They are absolutely irresponsible. We consider that there is a kind of mafia at the Prosecutor General’s Office,” said Oleg Brega. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office said the institution’s position on the protest will be stated later in a communiqué.
