The Committee of the National Resistance Movement ACUM mounts a protest against the government’s departures in the central square of Chisinau starting at 2pm on August 26, on the eve of the Independence Day. The protesters announced they will put up tents and will remain overnight downtown so as to celebrate the 27th anniversary of Moldova’s independence on August 27, IPN reports.
A protection fence was placed around the Government Building. By noon the protesters pitched a number of tents and police officers were already present in the Great National Assembly Square to maintain public order.
In a video placed in the social media, Ilian Cașu, Chisinau councilor representing the Party “Our Party”, says sympathizers of the Shor Party are having a barbecue near the central square of the capital city. Another group of people get ready to protest against the rise in fuel prices. “Today the regime is ready to stage provocations. I do not understand why a sincere intention of the people to protest was turned into a crass provocation. It smells of provocation in the central square. The regime is preparing a serious provocation,” said the municipal councilor.
The Committee of the National Resistance Movement ACUM was created in reaction to the decision to not validate the Chisinau early mayoral elections and has among its leaders heavyweights of the PAS, PPPDA, PLDM and representatives of civil society.
