Protesters at Chisinau City Hall demand not to ignore education

The dissatisfaction about the church erected on the territory of kindergarten No.150 of Chisinau intensified. A group of activists on December 16 protested at the Chisinau City Hall, carrying placards saying “Don’t dismiss education!”, IPN reports.

Ala Revenko, the representative of the public association “Solidary Parents”, said she attended the meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council two weeks and a half ago and informed about this problem there. However, no measures were taken in the period. Only a deputy mayor paid a field visit and said that he wants to reconcile everyone. Some suspicious persons do business on the territory of a state institution. The authorities should intervene and bar the foreign persons’ access to the kindergarten.

The protesters said funeral ceremonies are held at the church and the children hear what’s happening there when they go out of the kindergarten. Also, the children do not have a playground on the territory of the kindergarten.

The Council for Prevention and Elimination of Discrimination and Ensuring the Equality was notified of this case. The Council made a decision ascertaining indirect discrimination on grounds of beliefs in the education process and requested the General Education, Youth and Sport Division to take the necessary measures to make sure that no religious ceremonies contrary to the principle of secular education are held on the kindergarten’s territory.

The institution’s administration was recommended not to allow influencing the children on the kindergarten’s territory and not to expose them to religious ceremonies while at the kindergarten.
