“We do not want straw MPs!”. Representatives of civil society came with such a slogan to protests in front of the Parliament Building against the inclusion of the bills to change the electoral system in the May 5 sitting of the legislative body, IPN reports.
The protesters accused the Democratic Party and the Party of Socialists of acting by agreement and called on Parliament to obey the law. They said the discussion of the bill on the uninominal voting system in Parliament several days before the fact-finding visit by Venice Commission experts shows how much the opinion of those who oppose such an electoral system counts or actually does not count.
“We must boycott the adoption of this bill. We must prevent them from promoting their political interests,” said the executive director of the Institute for Public Policy Arcadie Barbarosie.
Police officers came to the Parliament Building to maintain public order.
