Protest mounted at intersection of Stefan cel Mare and Tighina streets

Several dozen people blocked the streets Tighina and Stefan cel Mare in Chisinau in the morning of February 22. The protesters were dissatisfied with the fact that they were not allowed to sell near the Central Market, IPN reports

According to protesters, employees of the Prosecutor’s Office, Customs Service and the Police carried out a raid and checked their documents and product prices. Dissatisfied with authorities’ actions, the people blocked Stefan cel Mare si Sfant Blvd at the intersection with Tighina St for a period.

A protester who called Marcel Zambitski, head of the General Division of Trade, Public Alimentation and Service Provision, said the persons who do not have documents and authorizations for selling were being driven away.

Silviu Musuc, deputy chief of the Municipal Police Division, said the Police didn’t take part in the event staged in the Central Market, but the persons who blocked the street violated the Contravention Code. The blocking of streets and traffic is not the best method.

Traffic was unblocked at about 11am.
