Protest in support of farmers to be mounted if Parliament does not sit next week

The Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) reiterated its request to other political forces, to the parliamentary majority and the Government to convene a Parliament sitting for next week and to approve decisions that will help the agricultural sector to survive. “If this does not happen, if we do not have a responsible response from the authorities next week, in a week and a half, on August 16, we will invite the people to a protest to support farmers’ demands, “ said the PAS leader Maia Sandu, being quoted by IPN.

At an event in support of farmers staged in front of the Presidential Building on August 6, members of the PAS, who came with dry corn and sunflower plants, asked that the Government shroud amend the state budget and allocate at least 1 billion lei in order to help the agricultural sector. They also demanded that the assistance should be allocated transparently and by a simple mechanism. They reiterated the request to decree a state of agricultural emergency and asked that the Government should take urgent measures in support of the animal breeding sector.

PAS MP Igor Grosu said that if the farmers are not helped now, they will not have what to eat in autumn. “We should encourage the farmers to claim rights. We will be near them. We will all come. If we have to work in Parliament in August, we will work, but must find urgent solutions until it is not too late,” stated the MP.
