Young people organized by the public association “Honor, Dignity and Homeland” (ODIP) staged a protest in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau, demanding that the presidential elections should be rerun so as to ensure everyone’s right to vote. A column of protesters marched to the head office of the Central Election Commission in order to submit an application to challenge the results of the November 13 presidential runoff. A petition will also be filed to the Constitutional Court and letters will be sent to the embassies working in Chisinau.
ODIP head Vlad Biletski has told IPN that it does not matter who the winner is, but the elections are null and void if they are rigged. “The right of the person to choose, which is a fundamental right, was violated. Thousands of people were brought in an organized way from the Transnistrian region to vote for Igor Dodon and this fact was documented by the state institutions. The pluralism of opinion wasn’t ensured,” he stated.
“The young people do not ask to bar the right to vote of the Transnistrian electors, but request that pluralism of opinion should be ensued in the region that is occupied by the Russian Federation.”
The ODIP head added that the Moldovans from the diaspora didn’t have enough ballots. More than 600 challenges were filed in this regard.
The protesters, who were mainly young people, said they ask for rerun elections because voting conditions for those from the Transnistrian region were ensured, while for those from the diaspora were not.
