Protest at State Residence: Now everything depends on Nicolae Timofti

Given that the Democratic Party created a parliamentary majority so as to be able to propose a candidate for premiership, now everything depends on President Nicolae Timofti, who is urged to nominate an upright person able to break the impasse for Prime Minister. The appeal was made by members of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” and of the Party “Dignity and Truth”, who mounted a demonstration at the State Residence with the aim of supporting the head of state so that this does not yield to the pressure exerted by an interest group and does not nominate the person proposed by this group for the post of Prime Minister, IPN reports.

The event organizers announced that at 10am on January 13 everyone is expected to come to the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau to support the appeal made to the pro-European President so that this nominates a person of great integrity for premiership.

Inga Grigoriu, founder of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”, said the people of Moldova entered the New Year awakened already as they realize that the current political class wants to remain in power because it runs businesses created by disadvantaging the people and will not concede the power easily. “We must join forces and disseminate the truth, especially to villages, where the TV channels brainwash the people. Now everything depends on the country’s President. He has two more months of tenure and can do something to go down in history. He should put up resistance. This majority that was created is not supported by the people and the head of state should thus not listen to it,” stated Inga Grigoriu.

Andrei Nastase, chairman of the Party “Dignity and Truth”, said a criminal group constituted a parliamentary majority that lacks credibility with the aim of fully controlling the usurped state. He called on the President not to yield to the pressure exerted by this group and to nominate a professional and upright person who will be able to break the deadlock for premiership. According to Nastase, if the legislature ripostes again and does not vote in the Government, the current legislative body should be immediately dissolved so that early elections could be held.

After the demonstration, the crowd went on a march to the head offices of the Liberal Party and the Party of Communists to demand that their MPs should not vote for the Government proposed by the Democratic Party. The protesters chanted “Shame”, “Down with the Junta” and “We want democracy, but not with Plahotniuc”.
