A protest against Moldova’s union with Romania will be mounted in Ceadir-Lunga town in front of the municipal administration’s building on March 27, starting at 10am. Such an initiative was put forward by the Elderly’s Council of Gagauzia, IPN reports.
In an interview for the news portal Gagauzinfo, head of the Elderly’s Council Vasile Arnaut said the event will bring together several hundred people. Gagauzia should struggle against anti-state elements that intend to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the so-called union on March 27.
The local press reported that the protest will involve not only authorized members of the Elderly’s Council from all the communities of Gagauzia, but also representatives of the local and regional authorities and of the region’s population.
President Igor Dodon reacted to the demonstration staged by the unionist movement in the central square of Chisinau on March 25. On his Facebook page, he wrote that “the government should know that it is directly responsible for the division caused by the unionists in society and that, owing to corruption, poverty and despair, the people look for alternatives, including the joining of a marginal and radical project like the unionism. During almost nine years in power, the Euro-unionists compromised everything they could, including their pro-European road. Namely owing to these errors committed by the Euro-unionists, the unionist current was maintained. After this year’s parliamentary elections, another administration – pro-statehood, patriotic and socially oriented - will come to power in Moldova.”
At the March 27 solemn sitting of the Parliament of Romania dedicated to the Union Centenary, Moldova will be represented by a parliamentary delegation and a governmental one. Speaker Andrian Candu, who will lead the parliamentary delegation, said he will give a speech in the meeting.
