Protest against higher electricity tariffs

Hundreds of people on November 9 protested in front of the National Agency for Energy Regulation against the increase in the electric power tariffs. The protest was staged by the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”. The people chanted “Decrease the tariffs!”, “Ciobanu, go away!”, “Down with the mafia!”. The police formed a cordon to prevent the protesters from entering the building, IPN reports.

The people tried to force their way and asked that the Agency’s director Sergiu Ciobanu should come out to discuss with them. But this refused to go out and invited several persons to discussions.

“We will have to stay here until Ciobanu explains why the electric power tariffs were raised,” said one of the protesters.

At a certain moment, the protesters tried to besiege the Agency’s building, but met with police resistance.

The protesters announced that they will continue the protest on November 10, in the same place.
