Protest against government mounted in front of Parliament Building

Tens of persons protested in front of the Parliament Building on July 19, demanding that the current government should leave because it does nothing for the citizens. In the protest organized by the initiative group “Veterans’ Force”, the participants said President Igor Dodon should also leave as he wants to win a new term in office at any cost. The veterans said that in 1992 they fought for the integrity and sovereignty of this state and some of them paid with their own life and health. Now the veterans are mistreated by the special forces of the current government, IPN reports.

Cătălina Covrig, the daughter of a veteran, said the protest was mounted in support not only of veterans, but of the whole country, including the young people who largely left the country because they do not see a future here. At school, they weren’t told many things about the war of 1992, but she knows about it from her family from which she also learned what courage and position mean. She called on the young people not to remain indifferent.

Teacher Tamara Brutari noted that the current criminal regime encourages the police and police officers acted abusively against veterans. She remembers very well the year 1992, when her husband went to war and she remained at home with their two sons. The people experienced difficult times and can no longer endure.

The protesters said they took to the streets to demand that their rights of veterans be respected, but they were treated like dogs at the police inspectorate and some of them had police reports made against them.

Veteran Andrei Eremia said the protests will continue in district centers and in Chisinau. They will not give up and will continue to protest. The veterans will come to the Parliament Building also when the motion of no confidence against the Government will be examined and will urge the MPs to carry it.

The protesters adopted a resolution by which they demanded that President Igor Dodon, Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grechanyi and Prime Minister Ion Chicu, together with the whole Cabinet, should immediately resign. The resolution says Parliament became a shopping center where everything is bought and sold and nothing changed in the country after Vlad Plahotniuc left. The current Government does not take measures to support the people and promotes Igor Dodon only so that he is reelected President. Igor Dodon forgot about his constitutional duties and is ready to concede land and entire villages to the separatists in exchange for votes in the Transnistrian region.

The resolution demands the the senior administration should leave so that a professional, politically unaffiliated government that can overcome the crisis and do something for the people could be named instead of it.
