Protective equipment donated for reproductive health offices of Moldova

A lot of protective equipment was offered to the 47 reproductive health offices of Moldova. The lot consists of protective face masks, visors, disposable medical gloves and other items. The donation was made with the assistance of the Government of Romania through RoAid and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), IPN reports.

A part of the equipment was offered to the Reproductive Health and Medical Genetics Center of the Mother and Child Institute. The Institute’s director Sergiu Gladun said the delivered equipment is an example of solidarity and support for the medical personnel of the given institutions. “Reproductive health and medical genetics are key areas on which the general health of the population depend,“ he stated, saying the supplied goods are enough for the entire 2021.

Attending the donation ceremony, Tatiana Zatîc, secretary of state at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, said the sexual and reproductive health services are essential and they are provided during the pandemic too. “Therefore, this donation is a very important one as it will help protect those who work in this sector. The family planning services, contraception services, cervical screening services are essential for the population and contribute to improving the population’s health and the demographic indicators in our country,” said Tatiana Zatîc. According to her, it this is one more gesture of solidary with Moldova made by the Romanian state and UNFPA.

UNFPA Moldova Resident Representative Nigina Abaszada said UNFPA supports the rights of each person in the word, regardless of age, ethnicity, state of health or place of residence, so that everyone has equal access to safe and high-quality sexual and reproductive health services. “As a result of a UNFPA analysis of the impact of COVID-19 during the first year of pandemic, it was determined that an estimated 12 million people faced difficulties in accessing family planning and reproductive health services,” stated Nigina Abaszada.

“I’m glad to see that in the Republic of Moldova, the efforts made in the health system, together with the support of the development partners, ensured the population’s continuous access to reproductive health services during the pandemic. It is now important to maintain these efforts and to make sure that the specialists of the national network of reproductive health offices continue to provide medical services in a safe environment, being protected from the risk of infection with COVID-19.”
