A protection levee on a distance of 1 km has been built on the beach in Vadul lui Vodă town of the municipality of Chisinau in a move to protect the tourist area from the danger of floods expected on the Nistru River, IPN reports.
According to the General Inspectorate for Emergencies, rescuers and carabineers are setting up a metallic frame for protecting the beach and the recreation area. The levee that is 1 meter in height and 1 km in length will protect the area from floodwater. Fifty employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergencies and the General Carabineers Inspectorate with 13 vehicles are working at the scene.
The rescuers took measures to prevent flooding in Vălcineț village of Ocnița district. Complex works to reinforce a drainage channel were performed there in concert with locals.
The State Hydrometeorological Service issued an orange code advisory for possible floods on the Nistru following the decision to increase the volume of water discharged from the Dnestrovsk Accumulation Lake to 2 050 m3/s. Between June 24 and July 2, the level of water on the Naslavcea-Dubăsari section is expected to rise by 2-3.2 meters, while on the Dubăsari-Talmaza section by 2.5-3.4 meters compared with June 24.
