Prospects of discussions with Gazprom are rather good, Marian Lupu
Acting President Marian Lupu, after Wednesday’s meeting of the Supreme Security Council, said that the prospects of the discussions on the purchase price of natural gas from January 1, 2012 held with Gazprom are rather good, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I cannot open the parentheses because the negotiations go on, but the prospects are good and the talks are expected to end in a professional manner,” he stated.
The meeting was held behind closed doors. Speaking about the subjects discussed in the meeting, Marian Lupu said it was decided to adjust the strategy for ensuring the country’s energy security until 2020 and to make the necessary changes to the document adopted in 2007, given the necessity of diversifying the sources of natural gas.
“30% of the necessary amount of electric power will be ensured by the national producers. We do not aim to produce 100% of the electricity given the regional and international conjuncture, but Moldova should develop its electric power lines so as to have a very good connection with the west and the east if necessary,” said Marian Lupu.
According to him, a separate subject discussed was the efficiency of the energy sector, given the large losses of energy resources in the distribution networks, especially in the housing sector. “Such a situation requires that the government and other relevant institutions promote policies to conserve the energy and make the energy sector more efficient, in accordance with the third energy package discussed and agreed with the EU,” stated Marian Lupu.
