Prosecutors will appeal sentence given to ex-CCECC officer

The prosecutors will appeal the ruling of the Botanica district court, whereby it re-classified the human trafficking charges against two people, one of whom was an inspector at the Center for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption. Through the court's ruling, the lawsuit was terminated, under the reason that the deadline for administrative punishment expired, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the criminal proceedings ensued after prosecutors were told that a CCECC officer is involved in human trafficking for sexual exploitation purposes. During the criminal investigation, the prosecutors established that the accused presented themselves as clients in the apartment of a 19-year-old woman, where they were offered sexual services. Consequently, the accused acknowledged that they were police servicemen, threatening to detain and penalize the woman for prostitution. Their threats continued, even if the woman changed her residence, the accused forcing her to prostitute herself and pay them €100 weekly. On July 5, 2011, the men were caught red-handed in the victim’s apartment, while taking their weekly fee. At the moment of arrest, one of the accused was working as a CCECC officer.
